Apartment project in sight for the former Binghamton McDonald’s site
A property in Binghamton that housed a McDonald’s restaurant may be used as the site for a 28-unit housing complex with retail space.
Greater Opportunities has acquired two plots just south of the agency’s offices on West State Street near Binghamton Plaza.
The properties were purchased in December from Robert Skrabalak for $140,000.
Greater Opportunities chief executive Mark Silvanic said the agency wanted to develop a project that would provide housing for low-income older people. He said the residential units would be built above mixed commercial space on the ground floor.
The agency is in the early planning stages of the complex, which would need support through tax credits or state grants.
Silvanic estimated the cost of the proposed project at $12-13 million.
The West State Street site has been vacant since the demolition of the McDonald’s restaurant just over three years ago. The company closed in September 2018.
