Mexican restaurant and tequila bar D Boca N Boca opens June 17 in Summerhill, Atlanta
After nearly three years of delays due to construction and permits, Mexican restaurant and tequila bar D Boca N Boca finally opens on Friday, June 17.
The opening date of the Georgia Avenue restaurant has changed several times over the past two months, much to the frustration of chef and owner Helio Bernal. But when asked if this time the opening date at Summerhill was firm, the answer was a firm ‘yes’.
D Boca N Boca transforms Bernal’s longtime pop-up, the Real Mexican Vittles, into his dream restaurant, where he shares his family’s heritage in Veracruz on the Gulf Coast and Yucatán through the food. Family recipes serve as inspiration for many dishes at D Boca N Boca.
Other dishes come from places like Mexico City, with its famous street tacos, or the pollo asado, ceviche and aguachile of Sinaloa and Monterey. There’s also huachinango (Veracruz-style roasted red snapper) on the menu and Huitlacoche (corn char), often referred to as the Mexican truffle.
A dish even winks at an Atlanta legend, Braves baseball player Hank Aaron, who hit his 715th career home run just down the street at Fulton County Stadium, now a parking lot, which includes a historical marker listing Aaron’s record achievement in 1974. Aaron is also commemorated on the menu at D Boca N Boca, with the Hammerin’ Hank Chop – a spice-rubbed steak described as a “legend cut of meat” served with salsa and vegetables.
D Boca N Boca’s bar offers local and Mexican beers, as well as tequila and mezcal to make margaritas, palomas and original cocktails. Mezcal and tequila flights are also available.
For now, Bernal plans to keep D Boca N Boca’s tight menu centered around drinks and snacks in the late afternoon and dinner in the evening. Lunch and weekend brunch are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
