Mexican restaurant opens second branch in Matthews, NC
The second North Carolina location for Cantina Louie, a Dia de los Muertos themed restaurant, is now open at Sycamore Commons in Matthews.
Belmont owner and native Jason Sharpe opened Cantina Louie’s first North Carolina location in Asheville. He told CharlotteFive he was excited to return to the Charlotte area and add a new concept to the restaurant scene in Matthews.
The Florida-based restaurant offers an authentic Mexican vibe with an environment full of vibrant colors and intentional decor. The menu showcases a fresh mix of classic and contemporary Mexican cuisine.
âWhen you walk into the place, you are just impressed and inspired,â Sharpe said. âThere are hand-painted murals on the walls, decorations imported from Mexico, and upbeat music. It’s just a fun place to celebrate with your family, on a date, or really for any occasion.
Cantina Louie was founded in 2014 with the aim of producing high quality cuisine, an authentic ambiance and a diverse menu. You can expect a variety of Mexican street foods, including Taco Fresco – a skirt steak in a corn tortilla topped with fresh lime, pico de gallo, and queso fresco. Other menu items include specialty tacos, including Hot Surfer Chick, which features grilled chicken breast, pineapple salsa, and ranch sriracha; or the Sunny-Side, which includes chorizo, fried egg and cilantro.
âWe love Charlotte because that’s where I grew up,â Sharpe said. “Charlotte has such an amazing food scene and we are a unique addition to that and can bring something innovative and exciting.”
