New Mexico hotel chain begins phased reopening

Like many other businesses, the Albuquerque Hotel has appeared vacant since the end of March.

The Albuquerque Hotel is just one of 13 Heritage Hotels and Resorts in our state that were closed during the pandemic.

“It was just not economical for us to keep it open with limited capacity and we are truly a four diamond hotel business, so for us with no restaurant, no bar, no pool, no spa, no room service, c ‘really is of very little use to guests coming to the hotel,’ Perez said.

Among all the properties, Perez said the company employed around 3,000 people. He said they began their first phase of reopening on Wednesday, which saw them bring back around 20% of their staff.

“I think we’re all in survival mode. I don’t think there is a company there, maybe if you make masks, but other than that I think most of the companies have been put on our knees because of this pandemic at the end of the day it hurt our families and our team members. We had to lay off thousands of people, “Perez said.

But Perez said they are resilient. During free time, they updated policies and practices by requiring staff to wear masks and gloves and have their temperature checked at the start of each shift.

They also care for customers, both for those who need social interaction and for those who don’t.

“We allow the guest to lead this process,” said Perez. “If a customer wants us to come to their room and arrange room service like we did before, we’ll do it with a mask and gloves. There may be customers who say to leave this outside my door, I don’t want to touch that I want to put this in place and we’ll let them do it, ”he said.

Starting Wednesday, six Heritage Hotel and Resort facilities will reopen:
Albuquerque Hotel
Chaco Hotel
Hotel St. Francis -Santa Fe
Chimayo Hotel in Santa Fe
Palacio de Marquesa -Taos
Hilton Garden Inn – Las Cruces

Perez hopes to attract guests with breathtaking views, spacious patios, all for the well-deserved stay. Heritage Hotels and Resorts will reopen more properties on July 15, and the rest will open by August 5.
