Operations manager Paulo Pena said: “The plan is to have a total of 10,000 beds, now we have 2,300 beds open. We are working with a local partner (DD3 Capital Partners), which is very important, with a fund of 150 million dollars to develop the properties and with them we believe that we will achieve this goal.

Achieving this goal will involve developing approximately 8,000 beds between new hotels and inns in popular Mexican destinations, including San Miguel de Allende, Sayulita, San Cristóbal de las Casas and Mérida.

Dreams of digital nomads in Tulum

The tourism industry in Mexico is booming, in large part thanks to strong government support for the sector. And perhaps nowhere has it benefited as much as the idyllic Mayan paradise of Tulum, set on the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean coast.

Tulum has become something of a celebrity hangout, with beach resorts and upscale hotels springing up among the coastal jungle at a knot pace.

The hotel, Selina Los Lirios, is sort of a model for how the group would like to develop in the region, and Pena says Tulum is the perfect location for the brand, given its appeal to the target demographic of Selina remote workers.

Until now, Selina’s development model has been to revamp and rename existing properties, but he will potentially consider developing properties close to natural and historic attractions.
